DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely inspect your Rockwool attic insulation yourself. Look for compressed batts, gaps between the insulation and the joists, dark water stains, and any areas where the Rockwool looks thin or missing. That’s worth doing once a year. What’s riskier to DIY: cutting Rockwool and fitting it correctly. Rockwool requires a serrated bread knife or insulation saw, and it creates stone dust. You should wear a proper respirator (N95 minimum), gloves, and eye protection. More importantly, if your attic has vermiculite insulation (common in Fremont homes built before 1990), disturbing it can release asbestos fibers.
